How It Works

A closer look at what happens between the moment you send us a file and the moment your driver passes the border with a valid TAD.

What each step actually involves

01

Send your file

Email customs@pcsl.uk.com with your commercial invoice, packing list, transport document, GB EORI for consignor and consignee, HS codes, route (office of departure → office of destination) and expected start time. If you're a returning customer we already have your EORI and standard route on file, so a quick reference is enough.

Tip: Time-saving tip: send the file at least 2 hours before your sailing so we can absorb any NCTS query without risking your slot.

02

We validate and prepare

Our customs operator checks commodity codes, weights, parties, route and seal numbers. Anything missing — an EORI that doesn't exist, a weight that looks wrong, a description too vague for classification — is flagged back to you in writing so there's a clear audit trail. We then allocate guarantee cover and prepare the declaration for NCTS.

Tip: We'll never silently proceed with a declaration that looks risky. You get a question first, a correction second, a lodged T1 third.

03

T1 lodged on NCTS

Once the declaration is built we lodge it on the UK New Computerised Transit System under our registered NCTS user. The system returns an 18-character MRN and the Transit Accompanying Document (TAD) — both are sent back to you, usually inside 30–60 minutes from the point where the file is clean.

Tip: The TAD is returned as a print-ready PDF with the MRN as a barcode so your driver can present it at every customs office along the route.

04

Tracked through to discharge

Our operator monitors the MRN as it moves: arrival at the office of transit, arrival at the office of destination, and the discharge message back from destination. If a status update is missing or the destination office is slow, we chase it before the deadline rather than after, so your guarantee position stays clean.

Tip: On our 24/7 transit retainer, any movement that has not discharged within the expected window automatically lands on a duty operator before the system flags it.
